EU needs a fair big tech tax to stand up to US intimidation
In light of recent developments between the EU, the US, Canada, and the G7 on international corporate taxation, the FISC Committee has submitted an oral question to the European Parliament on the taxation of Big Tech, which was discussed during today’s plenary session.
Rasmus Andresen, coordinator of the Greens/EFA group in the FISC Committee of the European Parliament, commented:
“In just three months, Meta, Amazon, Alphabet, and Microsoft have made over 90 billion euro in profits while paying hardly any taxes. Tech billionaires like Bezos, Gates, and Zuckerberg are increasingly using their power and wealth aggressively to influence politics.
The European Commission must no longer be paralysed by fear of Trump. A European Digital Tax is urgently needed — it stands for tax fairness, strengthens Europe’s digital sovereignty, and sends a clear message against intimidation by the US. The Commission must finally act.”
