Letter to the European Commission and EUCO – depriving Russian shares of Euronews
Brussels, 29th March 2022
Dear President of the European Council, Charles Michel,
Dear President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen,
The European television news network, Euronews, is supposed to cover world news from the
European perspective. This broadcaster always has been playing an important role as a news
channel, especially within our institutions.
Yet, there is one crucial thing that can have a dramatic impact on the Euronews content. Despite
the over–a–month war ongoing on Ukraine, the attacker – Russian Federation – still co–owns
Euronews. The Russian public broadcaster, utterly dependent on Kremlin, VGTRK (All–Russia
State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company) still is one of the shareholders.
As to avoid any Putin’s propaganda input into our European media system and news channels,
and his own falsified perspective on the Russian invasion, we undersigned, are strongly calling
on you to sanction Russia by immediately depriving of its shares of Euronews.
Yours sincerely,
